Scalp Issues

scalp issuesIt might happen for your scalp to itch, have white flakes or just some pain. You might think that the itch and flakes will never stop, but relief is possible. Getting rid of the itch begins with finding out why your scalp has this problem and finding out the best treatment for this cause.

A trichologist will help you find the best possible solution for your scalp problem.

Several scalp issues might go though just simple dandruff, meaning just some white flakes, seborrheic dermatitis, cradle cap, head lice, psoriasis, ring worm and many others.

Causes

Many of these issues have different causes.

For example, seborrheic dermatitis, being one of the most common scalp issues, we still don’t yet know the exact cause of seborrheic dermatitis. It may be related to a yeast (fungus) called malassezia that is in the oil secretion on the skin, a change on the scalp microbiota or an irregular response of the immune system.

dandruffSeborrheic dermatitis may go away without treatment or you may need many repeated treatments before the symptoms go away. Daily cleansing with a gentle shampoo can help reduce oiliness and dead skin buildup.

If we mention psoriasis, this is usually an auto immune disease which requires a completely different treatment from seborrheic dermatitis.

Ringworm on the other hand, is a fungal infection of the outer layer of the scalp and in the hair. It usually causes a rash made up of circular patches with raised, red edges that resemble worms. The rash spreads from these edges, often leaving the center clear, giving it a ring shape.
